Able to tolerate white radish & Daikon for a while now. I eat those on regular basis in my diet. Although, its said that black radish & Daikon are better for cleansing liver, helping pnacreatic enzymes, bil stones, bilirubin etc... I have only been able to find white radish and Daikon to date.
I read that Daikon (found in Japanese/Korean/Asian shops) is actually better than white radish, it contains more nutrients in terms of vitamins and minerals than does the white radish.
Daikon also contains digestive enzymes "At Tokyo's College of Pharmacy, researchers have discovered that daikon juice actually inhibits the formation of dangerous chemicals in the body. Nitrosamines, a type of carcinogen, can form in the stomach from chemicals present in both natural and processed foods. Daikon juice contains substances identified as "phenolic compounds" that can block this potentially dangerous reaction. Thus, a diet including raw daikon may reduce the risk of cancer." www.mitoku.com/products/driedvegetable/Healthbenefits_dai.html
Those who can't yet tolerate phenolic acid (both radish and daikon contains), it may be worth you trying just a little. I don't react to the phenols in those, but do react to phenols in other foods!!
There is plenty of info about the medicinal properties of radish and daikon in Journals of Nutrition etc...
Our little pink and white radishes are excellent source of vits and nutrients,
"Jaundice: Radish is very good for the liver and the stomach and it is a very good detoxifier too, that is, it purifies blood. It is miraculously useful in jaundice as it helps removing bilirubin and also checks its production. It also checks destruction of red blood cells during jaundice by increasing supply of fresh oxygen in the blood. The black radish is more preferred in jaundice. The leaves of radish are also very useful in treatment of jaundice." www.organicfacts.net/health-benefits/vegetable/health-benefits-of-radish.html#.TfPm3cEqdzs;facebook
The article lists relief of piles, urinary disorders, leucodema - skin disorders, cancer, etc... as listed in the article (check out the links).
