Info concerning the deficiency of enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase Nitrofurantoin(G6PD) - involved in glutathione level, through biochemical process to ensure appropriate amount of the coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) in cells. This process includes regulation of free radicals!! Though G6PD deficiency is reported as inherited, further reading is warranted for drug induced deficiency of G6PD. Deficiency in G6PD may result in acute hemolytic crisis (anemia), sometimes, following medications such as antimalarials, fluoroquinolones, Nitrofurantoin, Vitmain K, injections of Vitamin C, Aspirin diabetes drugs, and more. www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000528.htmAvoid foods such as fava beans etc. Common drugs to avoid: faculty.swosu.edu/scott.long/txcl/drugtox.htm
