Stumbled upon an article in the Independent today, about schizophrenia symptoms alleviated by antibiotics. Nothing new!! Its been known for may years that some infections can cause various manifestations of CNS symptoms. As for Schizophrenia, interesting, no clear definition, higher percentage diagnosed from ethnic minorities, (cultural rather than mental illness), blah, its another can of worms. The article is misleading on a number of points, the first on is the part about schizophrenic patients suffering an infection were prescribed antibiotics. Alleviated psychosis. Plenty of evidence show that infections can go cerebral, causing hallucinations, psychosis, agitation, and other CNS symptoms, same for chronic low grade infections!! So many diseases cause CNS symptoms, if the root cause is addressed, CNS symptoms subside. Infections, in particular, low grade and intra cellular, are notoriously difficult to diagnose, serum, urine, stool, spinal tap, none are reliable...
